4th Annual Women’s Empowerment Conference Monday, July 18, 2016

The Family Strong Foundation, nonprofit organization established in St. Landry Parish in 2012, is hosting their annual Women’s Empowerment Conference on Monday, July 18, 2016 from 8am to 2pm in Opelousas location to be announced. We have not confirmed our guest speaker for this year; however, previous guest speakers include Mary Ellen Donatto and Dr. Twyla Williams Damond. The conference cost $5 and includes conference materials, continental breakfast , and lunch .  Registration is required.  Various agencies and companies will present sessions on various topics; previous topics included: writing a business plan, starting your own business, securing business loans, self-defense for ladies, what ladies need to know before they bring their car to a mechanic, and cancer survivor testimonials. The underlying goal of the conference is to help women become financially, physically, and emotionally healthy.

Just In Time For Christmas

Both of the events have been replaced with our $5 Picture with Santa Claus and Winter Workshop for Kids December 1 and December 2, 2016; December 2 is dedicated to children with disabilities.

Free Computer Class for Seniors 50+

On  the third Saturday of each month Family Strong Foundation hosts free computer class for everyone but especially seniors over 50. The class are held at Holy Trinity Villa Apartments located at 422 Perry Lane in Opelousas. 501c3 Status

On August 5, 2013 we heard from the IRS and the Family Strong Foundation was granted 501c3 nonprofit public charity status. We are now looking into grants to provide free summer technology camps for children ages 5 to 12. We are also trying to host technology camps for adults.

Greetings from our CEO

The CEO of Family Strong Foundation (FSF) is Shonda Garner Brooks. Mrs. Brooks started FSF in December 2012 and has dedicated her life to the improvements and empowerment of the family in order to affect change in the world. Lofty goals but working together she believes we can accomplish anything.

No Spring Bridal Expo in 2016

We have enjoyed the bridal expo but we will not ge hosting it again in 2016. Check back with us for 2017 (our CEO may add it back on our calendar)!
The expo is the perfect place to plan your wedding or upcoming event, do some shopping, hear some good music, sample delicious cuisine, and see what products & services local businesses have to offer. All in a beautiful and serene environment. 
The expo is sponsored by Sounds of Elegance D.J. & Lighting, Evangeline Downs Hotel, Affordable Special Event Rentals, Premier Designs Jewelry, Guillory’s Seafood Express and Modern Diva’s Boutique. There will be tons of door prizes, fashion shows, samples, demos, vendors, products, and one lucky bride is going to walk away with The Bridal Bling Grand Prize Pack worth over $1000.

First 100 brides receive complimentary bridal bags.

The expo is a fundraiser and 100% of the proceeds go to charity.

Advance tickets are $3 and $5 at the door.
